Looking to start a career in high-risk lifting operations? The CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to perform dogging course provides the skills and knowledge required to safely perform dogging work, including slinging loads and directing crane operations in line with Australian Standards.
This nationally recognised training is required for individuals who work with cranes, hoists or rigging systems on construction sites, warehouses, or industrial facilities. It’s the first step towards becoming a licensed dogger (dogman) in Western Australia.
Delivered face-to-face at our Belmont or Naval Base training facility, this hands-on course is designed to build your practical skills and prepare you for assessment by a WorkSafe WA licensed Assessor. Whether you’re starting out or upskilling, you’ll gain the confidence and capability to work safely around load shifting equipment.

Course Details
This unit covers all aspects of dogging work and meets the requirements outlined in the National Assessment Instrument (NAI) for high-risk work licencing in Western Australia. Training is led by qualified trainers with real industry experience and includes both theoretical and practical components.
Key topics include:
Slinging techniques:
Learn how to select and use the correct slings, shackles and lifting gear based on load weight, size and shape.
Load estimation and equipment selection:
Understand how to determine safe working loads and choose the right lifting gear for each task.
Communication methods:
Use hand signals, whistles, and two-way radios to direct crane movements safely and effectively.
Hazard identification and risk control:
Spot common lifting hazards and apply appropriate safety controls to prevent incidents on site.
Crane operation support:
Work alongside licensed crane operators to guide lifts and ensure loads are moved safely and efficiently.
Assessments are conducted by a WorkSafe WA licensed Assessor in accordance with high-risk licensing standards. Participants must pass both a written and practical assessment to be eligible for a Dogging High Risk Work Licence.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment Requirement
To ensure prospective students have the necessary LLN skills to successfully undertake their chosen training, it is a mandatory requirement to complete an LLN assessment prior to booking confirmation.

Training Outcome
Upon successful completion of the CPCCLDG3001 – Licence to perform dogging course, participants will achieve a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment issued by KI Training and Assessing.
Participants will receive:
- A digital copy of the Statement of Attainment emailed the following business day for easy access and record-keeping.
- A Notice of Assessment to submit with your High Risk Work Licence application to WorkSafe WA.
Please note: The course fee does not include the WorkSafe application fee of $115.
KITA offers a service to lodge your WorkSafe High Risk Work Licence application on your behalf for $115, which includes administration costs. (This fee is subject to change.)
This training enables you to apply for a Dogging Licence (DG Class) through WorkSafe WA. Holding this licence allows you to sling loads and direct crane movements as required by law on all Australian worksites.
Our focus is not just on helping you get a ticket—but on ensuring you understand safe dogging practices that reduce workplace incidents.
Prerequisites & Course Requirements
Course Requirements
- Persons must be 18 years of age or older
- Photo ID must be presented i.e. current driver licence or passport
- Basic numeracy skills
- Basic English language and literacy skills
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): To enter our workshop, participants are required to wear steel-capped boots, long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Hardhats can be provided if you cannot bring your own.
Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements: Participants must be able to read, write and understand English. Completion of the LLN assessment is required prior to booking confirmation.
Age Requirement: Persons must be 18 years of age or older.
Individuals holding a Student Visa are not eligible to enrol in or attend the course as KITA is not a registered CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students).

Completing the dogging course is the first step toward a range of careers in the construction, mining, transport and logistics sectors. With your dogging licence, you can work in roles such as:
Dogger (Dogman) on commercial or civil construction sites
Crane crew member on building and infrastructure projects
Rigger or scaffolder, with further training
Warehouse or yard operations staff involved in moving large or awkward loads
A dogging licence is also often required for FIFO and shutdown work, making it a valuable ticket for those seeking long-term or remote employment in heavy industries.
