Course Overview

The RIIHAN308F – Load and unload plant unit provides workers with the skills and knowledge to safely prepare, load, unload and secure mobile plant and equipment for transport.

 

This course is ideal for workers responsible for moving earthmoving equipment, elevated work platforms, skid steers, forklifts, or other plant between worksites using floats, tilt trays or trailers. It focuses on transport safety, load restraint, and compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations.

 

Training is delivered face-to-face on-site for suitable employer groups. It includes practical training using ramps, tie-down equipment, and load positioning principles in line with Australian Standards and WA road transport regulations.

Course Details

RIIHAN308F – Load and unload plant

 

Participants will learn how to:
 

  • Plan and prepare for plant loading or unloading.
  • Assess ground conditions, gradients and clearance.
  • Select and use the correct tie-down and restraint systems.
  • Operate ramps and loading equipment safely.
  • Position plant for safe travel and axle weight distribution.
  • Secure loads in accordance with the Load Restraint Guide.
  • Unload plant safely and reset equipment for future transport.
  • Work within WHS and transport chain of responsibility requirements.

 
Assessment includes a written theory component and practical demonstration using real plant and transport vehicles.

 

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment Requirement

To ensure prospective students have the necessary LLN skills to successfully undertake their chosen training, it is a mandatory requirement to complete an LLN assessment prior to booking confirmation.

Training Outcome

Upon successful completion of the RIIHAN308F – Load and unload plant course, participants will achieve a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment issued by KI Training and Assessing.

 

Participants will receive:

    • A digital copy of the Statement of Attainment, which will be emailed to them either on the day of course completion or the following business day.

 

This unit provides formal competency to safely load and unload machinery or plant for transport in compliance with WHS and transport safety obligations.

Prerequisites & Course Requirements

There are no formal pre-requisites for this training.

 

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Participants are recommended to wear steel-capped boots, long pants and long-sleeved shirts as required on site. Completion of the LLN assessment is required prior to confirmation of the booking.

 

Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements: Participants must possess adequate LLN skills to interpret safety procedures and documentation.
