UETDRMP018 Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel – LV Rescue
- In-person
- On-site
Course Overview
The UETDRMP018 – Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel unit provides the skills and knowledge required to respond to an electrical emergency and safely perform a low voltage (LV) rescue in line with workplace and regulatory requirements.
This training is mandatory for electricians, electrical workers, apprentices, and others who work on or near live electrical circuits, including HVAC, data, communications, solar and general trades. It is also commonly required by employers to meet duty of care and WHS compliance under WA workplace legislation.
Training is delivered face-to-face at our Belmont or Naval Base training facility, and can also be delivered onsite for corporate groups. The course includes hands-on practical rescue simulations using real equipment.
This unit is commonly completed alongside HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and is required to be refreshed every 12 months by most employers.

Course Details
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a rescue from a live low voltage (LV) electrical panel in accordance with workplace procedures and WHS legislation. It is commonly required for electrical workers, apprentices, and tradespeople who work on or near energised electrical equipment.
Training is delivered face-to-face by experienced trainers and includes practical, scenario-based assessment using real or simulated LV panel rescue equipment.
Key topics include:
Electrical risk identification and site safety:
Learn how to assess electrical risks, identify energised components, and take appropriate safety precautions before attempting a rescue.
Rescue procedures and use of safety equipment:
Gain hands-on experience using LV rescue kits, insulated gloves, rescue crooks, and other PPE to remove a person from a live electrical panel safely.
Shut-down and isolation techniques:
Understand how to de-energise circuits and isolate the power source to prevent further harm during an electrical incident.
Post-rescue response and incident reporting:
Learn what to do after the rescue, including applying basic first aid (e.g. CPR where applicable), securing the site, and completing incident reports.
Communication and teamwork during emergencies:
Use effective communication strategies to coordinate emergency responses and interact with other personnel or first responders.
Assessment includes a practical rescue simulation and a short written or verbal knowledge check, aligned with industry standards and electrical safety regulations.
This unit is often delivered alongside HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to meet annual refresher requirements for electrical workers under WHS legislation and employer policies.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment Requirement
To ensure prospective students have the necessary LLN skills to successfully undertake their chosen training, it is a mandatory requirement to complete an LLN assessment prior to booking confirmation.

Training Outcome
Upon successful completion of the UETDRMP018 – Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel course, participants will achieve a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment issued by KI Training and Assessing.
Participants will receive:
- A digital copy of the Statement of Attainment, which will be emailed to them either on the day of course completion or the following business day.
This unit is recognised nationally and is commonly required to meet WHS compliance, electrical licence conditions, and site access requirements across a wide range of industries.
Most employers and regulators require LV Rescue training to be refreshed every 12 months, often in combination with CPR (HLTAID009), in line with current safety standards and industry best practice.
Prerequisites & Course Requirements
Pre-requisite Units:
To enrol in this course, you must hold current competency in the following:
-
- HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Participants are to wear enclosed shoes, long sleeve shirt and long pants for this training.
Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements: Participants must be able to read, write and understand English. Completion of the LLN assessment is required prior to confirmation of the booking.
Minimum Age: 18 years (recommended minimum due to physical requirements).
Individuals holding a Student Visa are not eligible to enrol in or attend the course as KITA is not a registered CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students).

*Eligibility rules may apply and other funding options may be available to you – depending on your industry or course.

Additional information
Completing this unit is essential for workers who perform tasks on or near live electrical equipment. It supports compliance, safety, and job readiness across a range of industries, including:
- Electrical trades and apprenticeships
- HVAC, solar, and data cabling technicians
- Facilities maintenance and service crews
- Industrial shutdown and maintenance teams
- Telecommunications and utility workers
This training is often required for electrical licence renewals, site inductions, and WHS compliance, particularly on construction sites, Tier 1 projects, and in regulated environments where a documented LV rescue competency is mandatory. It is also commonly completed alongside CPR training to meet employer and industry safety standards.
Holding current competency in LV rescue is a WHS requirement for any worker who performs tasks on or near live low voltage electrical installations. This training supports compliance with electrical safety legislation, codes of practice, and duty of care obligations under state and national regulations.
Workers trained in UETDRMP007 are equipped to:
- Recognise and respond to electrical emergencies involving live equipment
- Use LV rescue kits, insulated PPE, and appropriate isolation procedures
- Coordinate effectively during rescue scenarios and apply post-incident protocols
- Support site safety standards and reduce response times in critical situations
- Maintain compliance with licensing and industry audit requirements
This unit is commonly audited on high-risk sites, and refresher training is typically required every 12 months to maintain site access, particularly in the electrical, construction, utilities, and maintenance sectors.
