The TLIA1001 – Secure cargo unit provides the skills and knowledge required to correctly secure and restrain loads on vehicles and transport platforms in accordance with load restraint guidelines, site procedures, and safety legislation.
This course is suitable for workers involved in transport and logistics, freight operations, construction deliveries, and warehousing, where the movement of goods, plant, or equipment requires correct loading techniques and load restraint systems to avoid damage, spills or serious incidents.
Training is delivered face-to-face at our Belmont facility or can be arranged onsite for employer groups with compliant vehicles or training environments.

This course includes the nationally recognised unit of competency:
TLIA1001 – Secure cargo
You will learn to:
- Assess load type, weight and stability
- Identify and use suitable load restraint equipment (e.g. straps, chains, webbing, edge protectors)
- Position loads safely to prevent shifting during transport
- Use tie-down, direct restraint and containment methods
- Understand the National Load Restraint Guide (2018)
- Apply workplace procedures and WHS practices
- Inspect restraint equipment for wear and defects
- Document load restraint tasks and report non-compliance
Assessment includes a written component and a practical demonstration, using real or simulated loads and restraint systems.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment Requirement
To ensure prospective students have the necessary LLN skills to successfully undertake their chosen training, it is a mandatory requirement to complete an LLN assessment prior to booking confirmation.

Training Outcome
Upon successful completion of the TLIA1001 – Secure cargo, participants will achieve a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment issued by KI Training and Assessing.
Participants will receive:
- A digital copy of the Statement of Attainment, which will be emailed to them either on the day of course completion or the following business day.
This unit is essential for anyone responsible for loading and securing cargo, especially under WA transport and WHS laws.
Completing this unit helps reduce the risk of load-related incidents, improve compliance, and protect cargo during transit.
Prerequisites & Course Requirements
There are no formal pre-requisites for this training.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): To enter our workshop, participants are required to wear steel-capped boots, long pants and long-sleeved shirts. Hardhats can be provided if you can not bring your own.
Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements: Participants must possess adequate LLN skills to interpret safety procedures and documentation. Completion of the LLN assessment is required prior to confirmation of the booking.
Minimum Age: 18 years and over
