The RIIHAN309F – Conduct telescopic materials handler operations unit provides workers with the skills and knowledge to safely operate a telescopic materials handler—commonly known as a telehandler—in a range of site and construction environments.
This nationally recognised training is suitable for operators using telehandlers with fixed or integrated attachments, such as forks, buckets or work platforms, where a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) is not required.
Training is delivered face-to-face at our Belmont or Naval Base facility, with hands-on access to telehandler equipment, or onsite for employer groups with suitable machinery.
If your telehandler is fitted with a boom-type work platform, non-integrated lifting gear, or requires slinging or load direction, you may also need a High Risk Work Licence (e.g. CN or DG class).

RIIHAN309F – Conduct telescopic materials handler operations
You will learn how to:
- Identify types of telehandlers and understand rated capacity.
- Conduct pre-operational checks and equipment inspections.
- Operate the telehandler to shift loads using various attachments.
- Manoeuvre safely in tight or sloped environments.
- Use load charts, hazard controls and exclusion zones.
- Shut down and secure the telehandler in accordance with procedures.
- Follow WHS and site-specific policies.
Assessment includes both a written knowledge component and practical demonstration using a compliant telehandler with suitable attachments.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment Requirement
To ensure prospective students have the necessary LLN skills to successfully undertake their chosen training, it is a mandatory requirement to complete an LLN assessment prior to booking confirmation.

Training Outcome
Upon successful completion of the RIIHAN309F – Conduct telescopic materials handler operations course, participants will achieve a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment issued by KI Training and Assessing.
Participants will receive:
- A digital copy of the Statement of Attainment, which will be emailed to them either on the day of course completion or the following business day.
This training is recognised across Australia for use of non-licensable telehandler operations under workplace WHS requirements.
Prerequisites & Course Requirements
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): To enter our workshop, participants are required to wear steel-capped boots, long pants and long-sleeved shirts.
Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements: Participants must be able to read, write and understand English. Completion of the LLN assessment is required prior to booking confirmation.
Age Requirement: Persons must be 18 years of age or older.
Individuals holding a Student Visa are not eligible to enrol in or attend the course as KITA is not a registered CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students).
