MSMSS00017 – Use high pressure water jetting equipment skill set – REFRESHER training

The MSMSS00017 – Use high pressure water jetting equipment (Refresher) course is designed for water jetting assistants who need to renew their competency every two years, in line with the AS/NZS 4233.1:2013 standard and industry expectations for Class B operations.

 

This course ensures that workers who operate water jetting tools under supervision maintain current, nationally recognised skills in safety, equipment handling, and permit-controlled work environments.

 

Delivered face-to-face at our Belmont training facility, the refresher focuses on updated safety procedures, WHS compliance, and practical revalidation of your skills using high pressure jetting systems.

 

Who Should Attend?

 

This refresher is intended for:

Water jetting assistants whose original MSMSS00017 (or MSMWJ202/MSMWJ201) certificate is due for renewal

  • Shutdown or maintenance workers who perform jetting under supervision
  • Site or contractor personnel needing to meet WHS revalidation requirements
  • Anyone who assists with high pressure water jetting tasks in Class B environments

Training Outcome

Upon successful completion, participants will achieve a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment issued by KI Training and Assessing delivered as a skillset under MSMSS00017 – Use high pressure water jetting equipment.

 

The Statement will include:

MSMPER200 – Work in accordance with an issued permit

MSMWHS110 – Follow emergency response procedures

MSMWHS200 – Work safely

MSMWJ202 – Use high pressure water jetting equipment

 

Participants will receive:

  • A hard copy of the Statement of Attainment on the day of completion when completed at our Belmont training facility.
  • A medical alert wallet card.

This course meets the training requirements for Class B water jetting operations, and prepares you for the upgrade to MSMSS00018 if you wish to progress into more complex jetting roles or team leadership positions

Prerequisites & Course Requirements

To enrol in the refresher, you must provide at the time of booking:
A Statement of Attainment or equivalent for one of the following:

  • MSMWJ202 – Use high pressure water jetting equipment, or
  • MSMWJ201 (older equivalent), or
  • MSMSS00017 skill set

If your original certification was more than four years ago, you may be required to complete the full course — please contact us to check eligibility.

 

Physical Requirements: You must be physically capable of operating heavy hoses, standing for extended periods, and wearing full-body PPE.

 

PPE Requirements: You must wear steel-capped boots, long pants, and a long-sleeve shirt. We supply all other safety gear including gloves, face shields, and protective overalls.

 

Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Requirements: Participants must be able to read, write and understand English.

 

Minimum Age: 18 years (recommended minimum due to high-risk equipment).

 

Individuals holding a Student Visa are not eligible to enrol in or attend the course as KITA is not a registered CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students).

The refresher version of the MSMSS00017 Use high pressure water jetting equipment skill set includes the following four nationally recognised units of competency:

  • MSMPER200 – Work in accordance with an issued permit
  • MSMWHS110 – Follow emergency response procedures
  • MSMWHS200 – Work safely
  • MSMWJ202 – Use high pressure water jetting equipment

 

This training refreshes your ability to:

  • Set up and use Class B water jetting tools (e.g. gun, flexi-lance, tank head).
  • Operate under supervision with correct PPE and safety procedures.
  • Follow exclusion zone rules, lockout/tagout protocols, and site permits.
  • React to emergency situations with up-to-date WHS knowledge.
  • Communicate effectively within a team-based environment.

 

Refresher assessments include a short written component and practical demonstrations to verify that you still meet the operational standard for Class B jetting assistant roles.

 

MSMWJ202 – Use high pressure water jetting equipment is the core operational unit for Class B jetting and is also the prerequisite for MSMSS00018 – Operate a high pressure water jetting system, which qualifies you to act as a water jetting operator in more advanced roles.
